Second family member dies on Hatton Still Road

Trence Leon “Terry” “Dirt” Jackson, 56, died Dec. 28 when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a vehicle on Hatton Still Road. In a cruel coincidence, the accident occurred only a matter of feet from where Jackson’s nephew, Ricky L. Jackson, 46, was killed by a hit and run driver in 2016. That driver has still not been identified.
According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, on Dec. 28 Terry Jackson, of Southside Circle, was riding the bicycle in the southbound lane on Hatton Still Road at approximately 6:12 p.m. when he was hit by a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Tonya Suann Hand, 42, who was traveling south. The area of impact was four feet east of the west fog line, i.e. the solid white line at the edge of the roadway. The crash investigation is ongoing.
