Mr. Herbert Delone Brewer Jr., 76

Mr. Herbert Delone Brewer Jr., 76, of Hazlehurst, died Dec. 14 at St Joseph’s/Candler Hospital in Savannah.
Mr. Brewer was born Feb. 16, 1944, in Jeff Davis County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Delone Brewer Sr. and Margaret Theresa Girtman Brewer. He was a graduate of North Georgia Military College and a member of First United Methodist Church of Hazlehurst. He retired as a high school chemistry and physics teacher after serving over 30 years with Jeff Davis and Appling County School Systems. During his tenure in Jeff Davis, he was a STAR Teacher recipient. He was a former tennis coach and officiant of high school basketball. He was also a farmer who won numerous awards for being a top producer. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved all sports, especially Georgia Bulldogs. He was also a private airplane pilot.
Survivors include his wife, Leisa Yawn Brewer of Hazlehurst; sisters, Sara Beth Brewer Spell of Statesboro, Cheryl Lynn Brewer Eady (Larry Edward) of Milledgeville; nieces and nephews, Sean Spell of Statesboro, Jennifer Spell of Atlanta, Kelly Carr of Greensboro, Hope Wommack of Gray and Linsey Holt of Marietta; brother-in-law, Greg (Lynne) Yawn; mother-in-law, Pauline Yawn; nephew, Jonathan (Amber) Yawn, all of Hazlehurst; several great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Dec. 18 at Shelton’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. J. Barry Owens officiating.
Active pallbearers were Larry Smith, Jerry White, John Girtman, Todd Brewer, Greg Yawn, Randall Staniland, Ricky Harper and Sean Spell.
