Mr. Rufus Theodore McRae, 66

Graveside services for Mr. Rufus Theodore McRae, 66, who died Oct. 20 at Jeff Davis Hospital, were held Oct. 24 at Mt. Calvary CME Church cemetery in Lumber City with the Rev. Edwin Thomas, Bishop William Hollis and Pastor Naomi Conaway officiating.
Mr. McRae, aka “Wolf,” “Freddie,” “PaPa,” was born on April 4, 1954, in Telfair County to the late James and Zeoba (Smith) McRae.
He graduated from Telfair County High School and furthered his education at the Southeast Technical College in Vidalia, majoring in electrician. He was employed at Hazlehurst Mills for 45 and retired Nov. 12, 2018. He was a life-long member of Mt. Calvary CME Church.
Rufus was a man of many trades. His favorite thing to do was spending time with his family. He loved fishing, gardening, wood-work, and carpentry.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 46 years Shirley McRae; children  LaKeith (Rena) McRae of Lumber City, Kendra McRae of Hazlehurst and Brandi (Jeron) Stewart of Broxton; brothers Bobby Lee Smith of Atlanta, Jackie McRae, Ronald McRae, and Michael McRae, all of Lumber City; sisters Alice (Bobby) Joyce and Lisa McRae, both of Lumber City; sisters-in-law Josephine McRae of Atlanta, Claretha (Joseph) Jordan of Warner Robins, Emma Hicks of Lumber City and Carolyn (Glenn) Patterson of Macon; brothers-in-law Aaron (Dolly) Hicks Jr., Irvin Hicks and Jeffery Hicks, all of Lumber City; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Preceding him in death were brothers William McRae and James McRae Jr.; brother-in-law, Carl Hicks; and sister-in-law, Nancy (Daniel) Conaway.
Active pallbearers were Paul White, Jeron Stewart, Kendrick Chambers, LaDarius McRae, Shaquan McRae, Devin McRae, Dederick Robinson and Kevin Joyce.
King Brothers Funeral Home was in charge.
