Mr. Edward Murphy, 72

Mr. Edward Murphy, 72, of Hazlehurst, died Sept. 7 at Candler Hospital in Savannah.
Mr. Murphy was born April 29, 1948, in Jeff Davis County. He was preceded in death by his parents Lois Edward Murphy and Willa Mae Mancil Murphy. He was retired from Hazlehurst Mills with approximately 45 years of service and employed part time with Jeff Davis County E.M.S. and with Johnson County E.M.S. with approximately 27 years of service. He was a faithful member of Hazlehurst First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Ussery Murphy of Hazlehurst; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Carla Murphy of Hazlehurst; brothers, David Wayne Murphy (Shelia) of Hazlehurst and Ronnie Murphy (Gina) of Jacksonville. Fla.; grandson, Austin Murphy; step-grandchildren, April Mansfield, Britny Overstreet and Jacob Scott; great-grandchildren, Brailyn Overstreet and Ezra Kirkland; nephew, Jason Murphy (Heather) of Valdosta; niece, Brandy Smith (Patrick); great-nephew and niece, Myra and Austin Smith.
Graveside services were held Sept. 10 at Mt Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Brad Waters and the Rev. Jinker Horton officiating. Mr. Murphy traveled to the cemetery in an EMS Vehicle flanked with several emergency vehicles from several different counties following in the procession.
Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Davis County EMS, Johnson County EMS, Hazlehurst Jeff Davis County Fire Department, Johnson County Sheriff Department, Wrightsville Police Department, and Emanuel County EMS,
Active pallbearers were Jeff Davis County EMS, Edwin Williams, Richard Mims, Roger Ogilvie, and Johnson County EMS, D.J. Clark, Mike Bennett and Jason Howell.
