Four Arrests Made In Connection With Park Shooting

The Hazlehurst Police Department has made four arrests in connection with last month’s wild shootout at Mary McLean Park on Young Street in Hazlehurst.
Amber Robinson, 24, of Hazlehurst and Amari Monet Jones, 19, of Baxley were charged in connection with a fight that preceded the shootings. Robinson was charged with one count of aggravated assault with a knife and one count of affray. Jones was charged with one count of affray.
J.C. Aurthur Knight, 22, of Baxley was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a gun, four counts of criminal damage to property in the second degree, and one count of vandalism to a place of worship.
Torrence T. Jones, 41, of Baxley was charged with one count of pointing or aiming a gun or pistol at another.
While no one was hurt by gunfire at the shooting, Jones was stabbed in the altercation and reports were that several people pulled out firearms as the shooting began. Police Chief Ken Williams said several different caliber shell casing were found at the scene.
The incident occurred early on a Sunday morning after a Saturday night block party that lasted past midnight. Five vehicles were shot along with a nearby resident and Antioch CME Church on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive next to the park.
