Mrs. Ernestine Handsome Moore, 86

Services for Mrs. Ernestine Handsome Moore, 86, who died Aug. 27, were held Sept. 4 at First African Baptist Church in Sharon Hill, PA.
Officiating at the services were the Rev. Beverly S. Hudson, Joseph F. Barton III, and Racquel Holman. Burial was in Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, PA.
Mrs. Moore, born in Vidalia, was the daughter of the late Rufus Handsome Sr. and Jeraline Handsome. Preceding her in death were her stepmother, Sallie W. Handsome (who raised her); brother, Edward (Ceasar) Handsome, Esdene (Ted) Handsome Sr., and Rufus (Dilly) Handsome Jr. After completing her education at the Dickinson Training School, she attended cosmetology school to become a hair dresser. She lived in Ohio and Georgia working at many different hair salons. She returned back to Ohio to care for her mother and then moved to Pennsylvania until her death.She was an active member at every church she joined. She sang in the choir at Antioch CME Church in Hazlehurst. faithful member of St. Peter’s Baptist Church in Youngstown, Ohio. She joined First African Baptist Church after moving to Ohio. She was past President of the Senior Usher Board and a member of the Rose of Sharon Missionary Ministry; active member of the Darby Township Volunteer Fire Company #4 Ladies Auxiliary; the Red Haters and the Order of Eastern Star. Although she had no birth children, she cared for many as if they were her own, especially her beloved God-daughter, Rosie, ad stepson, David Brockenbrough.
Survivors include a host of nieces and nephews, Esdene Jr., Edwina, Geraldine, Valentino, Edward Jr., Rufus III, Cassandra, Racquel, Ron, Willie Dean, Joseph, and Latanya.; three sisters in law, Gladys, Rietta Mae Handsome of Hazlehurst and Daisy of Cleveland, Ohio, and a host of relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
Eccamillio D. Jones Funeral Home of Philadelphia, PA was in charge of arrangements.
