Veterans Observe Memorial Day
The Jeff Davis County Veterans Association held a small gathering of only vets on Memorial Day – public wasn’t invited because of health hazards – where they read the 32 names of KIAs from Jeff Davis. Roy Anderson, Phil Merritt, Carroll Walker, Bill Ryle and Tracy Page read the names. John Reed played taps, and Steve Underwood released 32 pigeons.Roy and Phil made the wreath that Lynda Dyal made.
It was a ceremony of honor and respect and a last-minute decision. The Veterans Assocation wanted to do something. John Reed told Roy that even if they didn’t have any ceremony of any kind yesterday, he was still going up to the park to play Taps nonetheless.
