Memorial Day Ceremony Cancelled
Because of Governor Brian Kemp’s order to shelter in place until June 12, the Jeff Davis County Veterans Association’s annual Memorial Day program at Veterans Square Park has been canceled. The governor’s latest order is for those 65 and older or have underlying medical problems to continue staying at home, and most members of the Veterans Association fall into that category.
The event recognizes veterans who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the country, which includes 32 Jeff Davis countians. To still commemorate Memorial Day, members of the Veterans Association will honor these men by placing 32 wooden crosses on the four major highways coming into Hazlehurst. In addition to the crosses, the members will place flags throughout town.
The Veterans Association invites everyone to visit the crosses to honor those who died in service to our country.
