Mrs. Carol Turner Powell, 74

Mrs. Carol Turner Powell, 74, of Lumber City, passed away Sept. 2 at her residence.
Mrs. Powell was born Jan. 20, 1945, in Telfair County to Mrs. Erma B. Turner and Thomas P. Turner. She was a homemaker, loving mother, loving grandmother, and member of Lumber City Baptist Church, where she served as Children’s Church Director and Sunday School Teacher for 35 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Powell, father, Thomas P. Turner, and great-grandson, Grady Michael Hayes.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Keith Varnadoe, Connie and Mark Gillis and Diane and Charles Heath all of Lumber City; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Angie Powell of Lumber City; mother, Erma B. Turner of Lumber City; sister, Brenda and Chester Powell of Lumber City; brother, Ricky and Betty Turner of Hazlehurst; sisters-in-law, Gail and Max McLoon and Rosalind Powell, both of Lumber City; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sept. 6 at Lumber City Baptist Church with the Rev. John Daughtry, the Rev. Ashley Tyree and Chad Brewer officiating. Interment followed in Lonnie Powell Memorial Cemetery at Shelton’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Lumber City.
Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, Melissa Leggett, Kelli Hayes, Dana Powell, Brandi Varnadoe, Alisha Powell, Hillary Gillis, Mykelyn Hayes, Brooklyn Powell, and Hollin Hayes.
Active pallbearers were grandsons, Brian Gillis, Matthew Varnadoe, Cason Varnadoe, Christopher Powell, Blake Powell, Michael Hayes, and Matt Leggett.
Following after active grandson pallbearers were great-grandsons, Slater Hayes, Ethan Varnadoe, Devin Powell, Cole Powell, Luke Powell, Canaan Hayes, and Hunter Leggett.
Music was rendered by Regina Tyree, Paulette Brown and Danny Burns.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
