Mrs. Sandra Powell Chavis, 76

Mrs. Sandra Powell Chavis, 76, of Uvalda, died Aug. 24 in Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness.
She was a native of Montgomery County and had lived in Uvalda most of her life. She was a 1962 graduate of Montgomery County High School. Before retiring as a bank teller she enjoyed working at a variety of jobs. She was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi, a member of Uvalda Church of God, but enjoyed attending many churches in the surrounding area. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Eunice Johnson Powell.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Richard Chavis; daughters, Tina Watson (Mike Yawn) and Angie Sellers (Ken); son, Tony Chavis; sister, Lorene Powell; grandchildren, Megan Walker (Donnie), Jon Michael Watson, Karlie Watson, Abby Sellers, Trey Sellers, Peyton Sellers, Blake Chavis, Conner Chavis and Peedy Chavis; great-grandchildren, Bailey Walker, Vayden Walker and Samuel Walker; and many special cousins.
Services were held August 26 in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with the Rev. Reece Mincey and the Rev. Alvin Merritt officiating. Interment followed in Uvalda City Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Classmates of 1962, Steve and Mildred Sellers, Jimmy and Greta Mcleod and Kenny and Linda Parlor.
Active pallbearers were Shannon Murdaugh, Ken Parlor, Ricky Johnson, Jeffery Chavis, David Glisson and Stephen Powell.
Music was rendered by Pat Myers.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
