Mr. Donnie Hugh Toler, 60
Mr. Donnie Hugh Toler, 60, of Hazlehurst passed away May 17 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.
Born in Soperton, he was one of seven children born to the late Ander Elton and Callie Kicklighter Toler. He and his siblings grew up in Soperton and were educated in the Treutlen County School System. As a teenager, Donnie worked as a mechanic with his father and worked on neighborhood children’s bicycles.
In 1979 he moved to Hazlehurst where he began a long career with Hazlehurst Mills where he worked as a shipping clerk until retiring in 2016. Donnie will be remembered for enjoying a good time with friends, dancing, cooking and preparing special dishes.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Faye Thompson Toler, a brother, Ander Cecil Toler and a sister, Barbara Ann Brinson.
He leaves behind, children Stephanie Chaney (Bill), Hazlehurst, Rachel Bordeaux (Kris), Atlanta, Bobby Ray Chambers, Milledgeville, Grayson Steverson, Hazlehurst, Jason Steverson, Hazlehurst; siblings, Wesley Toler (Florine), Brunswick, Faye Hardy (Andy), Soperton, Gail Toler Holton (Teddy), Soperton, Betty Jean Kersey (W.L.) Ellabell; grandchildren Nicholas, Somer, Connor and Preston Blum, Madison and Austin Bordeaux, Bobby Ray Chambers III, Ashley Chambers, Koby Watts; great grandson, Isaac Watts; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held May 23 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Hal Jeffcoat officiating.
Mr. Toler will be laid to rest in Harmony Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Donnie and Dennis Yawn, Lonnie Brewer, Ken and David Bohannon and Allen Partin.
His family received friends on Wednesday from 6–8 p.m. at the funeral home and following the graveside services at the home of Teddy and Gail Holton.
