Mrs. Eliza Jane Drayton, 79
Services for Mrs. Eliza Jane Drayton, 79, who died Nov. 8, were held Nov. 17 at Kirkland Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Reuben Bennett Jr. served as eulogist and Pastor Gwaine Davis Sr. presided. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Drayton was born Oct. 8, 1939, in Halifax, Va., to the late Phillip and Viola McCargo. She was educated in Newark, N.J., schools. She was a member of the Mason and Eastern Star, and provided nursery services to many mothers. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church where she was president of the Nursing Ministry, served in the choir, Willing Workers and Ushers Ministries. Upon moving to Hazlehurst, she joined Kirkland Grove Missionary Baptist Church, continuing her nursing duties.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Drayton, and a daughter, Loretta Dixon.
Survivors include daughters Dorothea Salter, Wanda Jackson (Ronnie) and Myra Wooten; sisters Shirley Pryor and Edith Long; brothers-in-law Walter Drayton and George Drayton (Algie); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchilren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Music was provided by Mattie McKiver and musicians/choir.
King Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Services was in charge.
