Mrs. Betty Jean Knox, 76
Services for Mrs. Betty Jean Knox, 76, who died July 29 at Vidalia Community Hospice, were held Aug. 4 at Bennett Tabernacle Holiness Church in Hazlehurst.
Pastor Joseph McLeod and the Rev. Andrew Mincey officiated with burial in Hazlehurst Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Knox, a native of Telfair County, was the daughter of the late Lacy and Willie E. Hill, attended House of God Church for many years and later joined Elizabeth Baptist Church in Hazlehurst. She worked at Jeff Davis County School Systems until she retired. She enjoyed fishing trips, family gatherings, and sitting on the porch speaking to everyone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Lee Knox; two children, Ivory Dewayne Knox and Loretta McLain; one grandchild, Mahlon D. Wilcox; her parents, Lacy and Willie E. Hill; six siblings, Mammie Ruth Hill, Willie Ethel Bennett, Louise Bennett, Idella Hill, Austin Hill, and James Hill.
Survivors include six children, Mae Kornegay, Virginia (Dwaine) Wilcox, Thomas (Felicia) Knox, Willie Knox, Tammy (Roy) Smith, and Shanterria Knox, all of Hazlehurst; two sisters, Clara Williams of Helena and Rose Smith of Chicago, Ill; 30 grandchildren, 27, great-great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers were Jeffrey Coleman, Treshawn Coleman, Jevarion Coleman, Tyler Knox, Dwaine Wilcox Jr., Erving McLain, and Thomas Knox Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were nephews and Deacons of Elizabeth Baptist Church.
Music was rendered by The Choir, Mattie Parker, and Minister Neal Wimbley.
