Services for Mr. Roy Drayton Sr., 80, who died May 21, were held May 29 at Kirkland Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Hazlehurst.
Pastor Henry Josey and Pastor Reuben Bennett Jr. officiated with burial in Kirkland Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Drayton, son of the late Liston and Ellen Drayton of Hazlehurst, was educated in Montgomery County School System and graduated from Toombs County High School. He joined the church at an early age. He worked for Shraves Ice Cream Company and as a gardener with the New York City Parks Department for many years until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Drayton; brothers, Lester, Will, Leroy, Jessie, and Richard; sisters, Rosa Lee, Rutha Mae, Georgia Mae, Mary Lee, and Eunice Woodard.
Survivors include his son, Roy Drayton Jr.; children he reared, Gwendolyn Moseley (Walter) and Victoria Fuller; two brothers, Walter B. Drayton and George Drayton (Algie); grandchildren, Tiffany Moseley, Justine Drayton, Tyrell Moseley, Marcus Zigler, Jonathan Robles, and Solana Drayton; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Gianni and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Active pallbearers were Marvin Mann, Barry Burch, Tommie Burch, Rufus Fields, Cameron Parker, and Nathan McKever Jr.
Music/readings were rendered by Lillian willis and Kristy Bennett.
Thornton’s Funeral Home of Hazlehurst was in charge of arrangements.
