Mrs. Corrine “Dee” Sturgis, 57

Mrs. Corrine “Dee” Sturgis, 57 of Hazlehurst passed away April 21. Mrs. Sturgis was born Oct. 11, 1960, in Rapid City, S.D., to the late Melvin Wiederrich and the late Sheila Dixie Wiederrich. She was preceded in death by her son Rocky J. Sturgis Jr. (R.J.).Survivors include her husband Rocky Sturgis of Hazlehurst; daughters Salome Edge and Sheila Sturgis; granddaughter Alexis Edge; sisters Gretchen Gorden and  husband Tom Gorden, Melody Steptoe and husband Danny Steptoe; several nieces and nephews.

Dee was a local artist who for 40 years has shared her passion for the arts in many ways. For 20-plus years she taught private art lessons to people of all ages and walks of life. The last seven years she has focused on depicting the daily lives and history of the American Natives. Her desire to teach the history of southeastern Georgia through art had led her to make many connections. Dee’s response always to others awe over her works, passion, and knowledge was simple. “I give God all the glory!”

A celebration of her life will be held May 5 at Towns Bluff Park beach area. The time will be at 2 p.m. The Rev. David Deen will officiate.
