Mr. Sammy Smith, 73, of Lumber City, died April 8 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Mr. Smith was born Dec. 30, 1944, in Telfair County to the late Herman Chester Smith and the late Macy Magdaline Housend.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, member of Lumber City Masonic Lodge #199 for 50 years, member of Lumber City Council and member of Lumber City United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Kermit Gore and Kent Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Stroupe Smith of Lumber City; daughter Marci Smith McCranie (Tony Meadows) of Lyons; son, Marc C. Smith of Lumber City; sisters, Donna Jones (Ronnie) of Lumber City; and Glenda Burnette of MacClenny, Fla.; brothers, Gary (Shine) Smith of Lumber City and William (Sparky) Smith of Alamo; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held April 11 in Lumber City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Glen Hancock and Dr. Wayne MacDonald officiating. Interment followed in Telfair Memorial Garden in McRae-Helena with Masonic Rites.
Active pallbearers were Tony Gore, Stacey Stone, Matthew Smith, Adam Smith, Ronnie Smith, Kevin Sellers, Danny Smith and Scott Smith.
Musical selections were rendered by Margaret Nell Hulett and Lumber City Methodist Church Choir.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
