It was another busy week for the JDHS Lady Jacket softball team as they had 5 games, posting a 3-2 record.
Last Tuesday, Jeff Davis rolled to a 17-0 win in Fitzgerald. Wednesday they hosted Effingham County and took it on the chin, losing 11-1. Thursday, the team split a pair of games against No. 5 ranked Vidalia, winning the opener 7-2 but falling 12-10 in the 2nd game. Monday, the Lady Jackets avenged their loss to Effingham by taking a 7-2 win in Springfield.
In Fitzgerald, the Lady Jackets put 13 runs on the board in the 1st inning and never looked back, winning 17-0 in 4 innings.
Three Lady Jackets went 3-for-4 at the plate. Ava Bohannon had a single, a double, a homer and 3 RBI, Anna Grace Alligood had 3 doubles and 4 RBI, and Savanna Robinette had 2 singles, a triple and 3 RBI, Madison Joyce had a single, a double and 2 RBI, Gabby Taylor and Abby Williams both singled twice and drove in a run, Mikelynn Jones had a single and 2 RBI, Skyden Chaney had a single and an RBI and Briley Reagin rounded out the 18-hit attack with a single.
Alligood pitched a 1-hit shutout, walked none and struck out 7.
Effingham came to Hazlehurst Wednesday swinging the bats hard, collecting 13 hits in the 11-1 victory.
Alligood singled in a run in the first inning for JD’s only score.
The Lady Jackets had 3 hits, Reagin’s double and singles by Alligood and Taylor.
Taylor was the starting pitcher. She went 1 2/3 innings, giving up one earned run on 5 hits, walking none and striking out 2. Reagin pitched the final 4 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 8 hits, walking 3 and fanning 4.
Thursday’s 7-2 win in the opener was a shocker as the Lady Indians were a heavy favorite to win.
Vidalia took a 1-0 lead in the 1st and JD tied the game in the 3rd on an RBI single by Williams.
In the 4th, Jeff Davis took the lead for good with 3 runs. After a walk and a Joyce single put 2 runners on base, Taylor singled to make it 2-1. A wild pitch put runners at 2nd and 3rd and Jones singled up the middle for 2 runs and a 4-1 lead.
In the 5th, Mattie Walsh doubled and Bohannon hit a 2-run homer over the left field fence. Williams singled and scored on a Robinette double and Jeff Davis led 7-1. Vidalia got their 2nd run in the 6th.
Walsh had a single and a double, Robinette had a single, a double and an RBI, Bohannon had a 2-run homer, Williams singled twice and drove in a run, Jones had a 2-run single, Taylor had a single and an RBI, and Joyce added a single.
Reagin went the distance on the mound, giving up one earned run on 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out 5.
In the nightcap, Jeff Davis took a 2-0 lead early in the game but the Lady Indians scored 7 in the 4th to take a 7-2 lead. The Lady Jackets bounced right back with a 7-run 5th to move in front 9-7. Vidalia rallied to score 5 more run and ended up with the 12-10 win.
JD out-hit Vidalia 11-10, led by Reagin who had 2 singles, a double, her 1st home run of the season, and an RBI. Alligood also had her 1st homer of the season with a 3-run shot in the 5th. Williams had 2 singles and 2 RBI, Bohannon and Robinette each had a single and an RBI, Taylor and Jones both singled and Walsh drove in 2 runs.
Reagin was the starting pitcher. She threw 5 1/3 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 8 hits, walking 4 and striking out 5. Taylor pitched 2/3 innings, giving up one earned run on 2 hits, a walk and a strikeout.
Five errors enabled Vidalia to score 9 unearned runs while all 10 of the Lady Jacket scores were earned.
The Lady Jackets continued to pound the ball hard against Effingham County, banging out 12 hits in the 7-2 win.
Taylor had 3 singles and an RBI, Bohannon and Robinette each had a single and a solo home run, Jones doubled and drove in a run, Williams tripled and drove in a run, Joyce and Reagin each had a single and an RBI, and Alligood singled.
Alligood pitched a complete game, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, walking one and fanning 5.
