Crisp fugitives nabbed in Jeff Davis
A fatal shooting Saturday in Crisp County led to a multi-county police chase that ended in Jeff Davis County, with four suspects taken into custody.
Police responded around 6:44 p.m. Saturday to a Drayton Road residence in Cordele, where officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to Crisp Regional Hospital, and one later died,.
In a statement released Sunday, the Georgia State Patrol said troopers from Post 16 were alerted to a BOLO for a possible homicide suspect traveling in a silver 2022 Chevrolet Malibu from Crisp County.
According to the patrol, the vehicle was detected near the 1-mile marker on Georgia 268 in Jeff Davis County. As troopers responded, a Coffee County deputy spotted the car, and the driver began fleeing, prompting a pursuit east toward Hazlehurst.
The chase ended near the intersection of Broxton Highway and Kirkland Still Road, where a Coffee County deputy used a PIT maneuver to stop the Malibu.
During the Saturday chase on the Broxton Highway, the Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Department issued a statement on Facebook warning the public to avoid traveling south on Broxton Hwy. headed toward Snipesville, saying agencies as far away as Crisp County, including the GBI were working an incident in the area and traffic would be delayed if going in that direction.
The Sheriff’s Department issued a followup statement later saying the area of Broxton Hwy. had been cleared and traffic was back to normal.
The statement continued to say four individuals were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Jeff Davis County Detention Center where they were later turned over to Crisp County authorities to return to the incident location.
