Jackets lose 2 of 3 to Bulldogs

Jeff Davis High’s baseball team lost two of three games against region opponent Thomasville last week.
The Jackets opened the series with a 5-3 win in Hazlehurst and then fell 11-3 and 11-1 in a Friday double header in Thomaasville.
The games left the Jackets with a 6-12 overall record and a 3-7 record in region play.
In the 5-3 win in Hazlehurst, JD got all the runs they needed with a 4-run first inning.
Treyton Webster started things with a solo homer over the right field fence for a 1-0 lead.
Josh Worthington had an RBI single and Peyton Jones drove in 2 runs with a single.
In the 2nd inning, Zack Hulett and Tye Rea got back-to-back, 2-out singles and Hulett scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.
The Bulldogs scored 2 runs in the 3rd and another in the 7th to account for the final score.
Webster’s homer was the big hit for the Jackets. Jones had a single, a double and 2 RBI, Hulett singled twice, Worthington had a single and an RBI and Rea singled.
Jones started on the mound and got the win. He went 5 innings, giving up one earned run on 5 hits, walking one and striking out 4. Hulett pitched the final 2 innings, giving up one run on 2 hits, walking none, hitting one and striking out 6.
In the 1st game in Thomasville, the game was close through 4 1/2 innings as the Bulldogs held a narrow 4-2 lead. But the hosts scored 4 in the bottom of the 5th and 4 more in the 6th to blow the game open.
The Jackets struck first in the top of the 1st as Webster reached on an error, went to 2nd as Laney got a bunt single, took 3rd on Rea’s sacrifice bunt and scored as Hulett grounded out.
In the 5th, Seth Saunders and Karter Galbreath got consecutive singles and a run scored on Webster’s fly out.
JD got a run in the 7th as Worthington doubled, Jones singled and Worthington scored when Webster reached on an error.
The Jackets got 5 hits, a Worthington double and singles by Laney, Saunders, Jones and Galbreath. Webster and Rea had RBIs.
Saunders started and took the loss. He went 4 innings, giving up 5 runs on 3 hits, 6 walks, a hit batter and 4 strikeouts. Jones pitched an inning, giving up one earned run on 2 hits, walking none and striking out one. Galbreath pitched an inning, giving up 4 unearned runs on 2 hits, walking 2 and striking out one.
Friday’s nightcap lasted only 5 innings.
Jeff Davis’ only run came in the 5th when Jones got a 2-out single and Galbreath followed with a run-scoring double.
The Jackets scored one run on 6 hits while the Bulldogs got 11 runs on just 7 hits. Galbreath had a double and an RBI and Hulett, Rea, Worthington, Jones and Brayden Picanso each singled.
Webster took the loss. He pitched 2 innings, giving up 7 runs on 5 hits, 5 walks and 3 strikeouts. Laney threw 2 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 2 hits, 3 walks, a hit batter and no strikeouts.
