Land Will Run For Council

Former Hazlehurst Police Chief Steve Land this week made a formal announcement of his plan to run for the Ward 2 position on the Hazlehurst City Council in the March 12 City of Hazlehurst Special Election.
In making his announcement, Land said, “I …. after much prayer and consideration, am proud to announce my candidacy for Hazlehurst City Council Ward 2.
“Beginning in year 1977, I proudly served the city as an employee of the Hazlehurst Police Department and acted as chief for 34 1/2 years prior to my retirement in 2017. I obtained the title of Outstanding Chief of the Year in 1999 selected by the GA Chief’s Association.
“I was born and raised in Jeff Davis County and graduated from Jeff Davis High School in 1969. I am a 1993 graduate of the FBI Academy, Quantico, Va.
“My wife, Rachel, and I are both active members of First Baptist Church where I volunteer with Bread of Life food bank and the men’s group building handicap ramps. We have raised four children together of whom we are both very proud.
“After retirement, I, to this day, hold the title of Vice President of the Jeff Davis County/Hazlehurst Historical Society museum.
“My goal is to bring progress and unity to the city council for the betterment of our community as a whole. With my experience working with the city, I believe I can make a difference by listening to our community’s needs and working collaboratively with other council members to meet those needs. I aspire but to hold myself and fellow council members accountable by providing full transparency to the public.
“Taking Action, Getting Results.”
