Mrs. Merleen Hamm Shumans, 94

Mrs. Merleen Hamm Shumans, 94, of Hazlehurst died Jan. 12 at Community Hospice in Vidalia. She was born Sept. 30, 1928, in Baxley.
Per her wishes, the Rev. Jeffery Spell officiated a private family and friends graveside service at Graham United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Shumans was a long-serving member of the church family. Later in life, she also enjoyed her membership at Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Mrs. Shumans was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Leroy Shumans; parents, William Briley and Addie Cowart Hamm; daughter-in-law, Judy Shumans; grandson, David Kyle Shumans; sisters, Gertrude Miles, Kathleen Bright, Essie Mae Floyd, and Angie Lee Graham; brothers, Warnell (Sam) Hamm, James Lester Hamm, Eugene (Jab) Hamm, Vernon (Bud) Hamm, Charles Felton Hamm, and John Edward Hamm.
Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Lula Mae Perry (Wayne) of Hazlehurst; son, Dr. David Leroy Shumans of Graham; grandchildren, Jennifer Perry of Atlanta and Grant Parker Shumans of Graham; sister, Janelle Strickland of Graham; sister-in-law, Vicki Vickers (Gavin) of Alma; and several nieces and nephews.
Community Hospice of Vidalia provides compassionate, caring services to families in the community. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Community Hospice, 904 Mt. Vernon Road, Vidalia, Ga. 30474.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
