Hall of Fame Class Selected
The Jeff Davis Football Touchdown Club has selected the 2026 Football Hall Of Fame inductees. This year’s inductees include representatives from multiple eras of Jeff Davis Football. The 1980’s, 2010/20’s and a longtime JD Supporter/Youth Coach will be represented at this year’s event. This year’s class includes:
Charles Mitchell: 1980’s (Linebacker)
A great player for the Jackets in the 1980’s that received a scholarship to play football at Valdosta State University. After graduation, Mitchell was a multiple year letter winner for the Blazers. A fun fact is that Mr. Mitchell played beside the great Jesse Tuggle as a Blazer. Charles Mitchell has spent his professional career in the logistics business after graduation from VSU, and now resides in Jacksonville, Fla.
Nate Lewis: 2010/20’s (Offensive Line)
Nate Lewis is one of the key names associated with the 2010/20s era of Jeff Davis Football. A multiple year starter for the Jackets, Nate was a key piece for the Jackets as they competed for region championships in 2020 & 2021, and hosted home playoff games in back-to-back seasons. Mr. Lewis was a 2-time All State selection for the Jackets in both his junior/senior seasons. Mr. Lewis went on to play collegiately at both Georgia Southern and Austin Peay universities where he was a multiple year letter winner. Upon graduation Nate decided to venture into the world of education as a teacher. He has made a real investment in this community, as he is now a teacher and coach for Jeff Davis County Schools.
Rod Rentz: Supporting Role
If there was one name synonymous with youth athletics in Jeff Davis County, it would be Rod Rentz. Rod Rentz is Jeff Davis born and bred, and has been involved with youth athletics in our county for over 20 years. Coach Rod is beloved by the youth in this county, and every parent knows that Coach Rod does what is best for their child. Rod Rentz wears being a Yellow Jacket with pride, played for the Jackets himself, and has been a true supporter of Jeff Davis Athletics his entire life. You will see Coach Rod on the sidelines, at practices, and at the Recreation Department wearing his JD colors with pride. He has been instrumental in the development of young football players for decades in this community. He has coached hundreds of players in this game, and he means the world to the Jeff Davis Athletics community. We love you, Coach Rod!
We look forward to celebrating these people at our Annual Legends Gala July 25 and at our Brotherhood Game on Oct. 23. More details will be out later this week!
