School Board Meets

Monday’s meeting of the Jeff Davis County Board of Education began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Pre-K students Hennessee Jones, Barrett Lytle, Aleah McCarty, Alanni Bivins, Landon Creech, Ruby Moody, Mac Perry, Ayden Burkett and Emory Carter,
Pre-K Director Dr. Denise Haley recognized one student from each class for listening, being respectful, following directions, being a friend to others, and having excellent character. They were Hennessee Jones – Mrs. Alyssa Williams; Barrett Lytle – Miss Elsa Gonzalez; Aleah McCarty – Mrs. Wendy Kight; Alanni Bivins – Mrs. Katie Medders; Landon Creech – Mrs. Kara Summerlin; Ruby Moody – Mrs. Cassie Osorio; Mac Perry – Mrs. Ge Carter; Ayden Burkett – Mrs. Christian Edwards; Emory Carter – Mrs. Cynthia Burke.
Transportation Director Alvin Merritt recognized Jimmy Joe Davis in appreciation of over 40 years of of dedicated service as a school bus driver.
School Nutrition Director Alisa Jones recognized:
Brooke Hampton – Outstanding Service – Mrs. Hampton consistently goes above and beyond in her role, demonstrating professionalism, reliability, and a strong commitment to supporting our schools and staff.
Angela Steverson – Celebrating Excellence – Mrs. Steverson was awarded the Manager of the Year Award and the Beyond the Plate Award at the annual GSNA Conference.
Cindy Fleming – Recognizing Excellence – Mrs. Fleming was awarded the SNA Media Award at the GSNA Conference.
Regena Smith – Honoring Excellence – Mrs. Smith was awarded the Gold Scroll Award at the GSNA Conference.
School Superintendent Dr. Chris Roppe presented the April attendance report, indicating the average attendance was 93.28%.
Director of Student Services Garrett White gave an update on Student Services. Student Services is made up of the counselors, nurses, mental health therapists and social workers.
White and team leaders presented an overview of the Strategic Plan to the board.
Dr. Adam Kirby gave an update on the new primary school project stating that the project continues to be on schedule.

These policies will sit open for public comment until the June 11 board meeting.
Chief Financial Officer Joshua Worth presented the March financial reports.
Consent Agenda
The board accepted the resignation of Eddie (Krickett) Kersey – JDHS SNP Assistant and the retirement of Linda Alligood – JDHS SNP Assistant.
Recommendations approved were JDES paraprofessional Raygan Bridges, JDPS SNP assistant Joyce Fales and JDHS SNP assistant Tonya Waters.
Dr. Roppe informed the board that a called meeting will be needed at the end of May for personnel matters.
