Lady Jacket tennis tops Armuchee in Final Four

The Jeff Davis Lady Yellow Jackets are one win closer to history after an electrifying Final Four victory over the Armuchee Lady Indians last Wednesday. As the #1 seed in Class A Division I, the Lady Jackets defended their home courts with determination, grit, and plenty of championship energy.
The match opened with senior standout Cori Mims setting the tone for the afternoon at the No. 1 singles position. Mims battled her way to the first victory for the Lady Jackets, igniting the crowd and giving Jeff Davis early momentum.
Not long after, Ryleigh King delivered the second point of the match from the No. 3 singles court, putting the Lady Jackets firmly in control. With every serve, volley, and rally, Jeff Davis looked determined to keep their championship dreams alive.
The clinching point came from the No. 1 doubles team of Kylie Ross and senior Ava Coleman. In a memorable moment, Coleman served out the final game of her last-ever home match, sealing the victory and sending the Lady Jackets rushing onto the courts in celebration.
Adding to the excitement, Lila Rayne Walters secured her match point just seconds later, while the doubles team of Rowan Fisher and Caylin Carter were locked in a tightly contested battle that went unfinished as the celebration erupted across the courts.
Now, the Lady Jackets are officially “on the road to Rome” as they advance to the State Championship to face the Model Lady Blue Devils at 9 a.m. on May 13. The match will take place on Courts 4-8 at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College. Tickets for the event are being sold online. Search “GHSA” at gofan.co.
Coach Mary Katherine Brown praised her team’s resilience and determination following the victory.
“We are so proud of this team and their grit,” Brown said. “We have had an incredible season, and we have plenty of fight left in us. Our girls from the top to the bottom of the lineup are just super tenacious and play with so much heart. They are ready to make history again!”
