Mr. Benjamin Tyrone Griffin, 71

Mr. Benjamin Tyrone Griffin, 71, of Hazlehurst passed away March 22 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah.
Tyrone was born March 1, 1955, in Hazlehurst to the late James Vasco Griffin and the late Sadie Louise Hall Griffin. He started substituting as a bus driver, driving for his father, at the age of 18. He was an EMT and farmer before returning to driving a bus. During his 51-year career, he drove for school systems in Jeff Davis County and Appling County and retired as the transportation director in Tattnall County. He was also a proud Bus Rodeo Champion.
Tyrone was an active member of Oakland Baptist Church. He sang in the choir, was a Sunday school teacher, and was in the ministry of cooking at church and on mission trips.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Linda McDonald and Sandra Page.
Survivors include his wife Charlotte Griffin of Hazlehurst; daughters Kayla (Billy) Palmer of Alma and Nikki Griffin of Hazlehurst; sister Wanda (Don) Doyle of Tybee Island; parents-in-law Tommy and Jeanette Davis of Baxley; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Services were held March 25 at Oakland Baptist Church with the Rev. Royce Hulett and the Rev. Keith Yawn officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Bengy Davis, Jeremiah Davis, Jonathan Davis, Eric Griffin, Bill Griffin, Billy Palmer, Stafford King and Hayden King.
Honorary pallbearers were the Adult Sunday School Class of Oakland Baptist Church, and Dwyatt, Michele, and Mckenzie Creamer.
Music was rendered by Vic Brantley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to help defray expenses.
Swain Funeral Home was in charge.
