Jeff Davis High’s girls basketball team took a trio of region losses last week, falling to Fitzgerald 61-28 Tuesday in Hazlehurst, dropping a 76-44 game to Worth County Friday in Sylvester, and losing 58-40 to Bacon County Saturday night in Hazlehurst.
The games left the Lady Jackets with a 5-15 overall record and a 2-6 Region 1A, Div. 1 record.
Fitzgerald is now 12-6 and 5-3, Worth stands at 9-9 and 4-4, and Bacon is at 20-1 and 8-1.
Fitzgerald brought a fast group of girls and a deep bench to Hazlehurst Tuesday and they jumped out to a 25-11 first quarter lead. JD’s Brylee Wyatt kept the Lady Jackets close with a pair of 3-pt. shots in the opening quarter but, in the end, the Lady Canes’ athletic team was too much for Jeff Davis.
Wyatt and Bree Coney led the Jeff Davis scoring with 9 points each, Latrice Shivers had 8 and Anna Grace Alligood rounded out the scoring with 2.
The Lady Canes had 3 in double figures, Kianti McDuffie had 17, Alexia Hayward 13 and Sanorra McKind 10.
Friday in Sylvester, Wyatt hit a trio of shots from beyond the arc in the 1st quarter and Jeff Davis led 11-10 at the break. But from there on out it was all Worth County as the Lady Rams rolled to the 76-44 win. Jeff Davis played without the services of senior Latrice Shivers and she was sorely missed.
Wyatt hit 6 3-pointers in the game and finished with 20 points to lead Jeff Davis. Coney joined her in double figures with 16, Markyla Durden and Alligood both had 3 and Zijanna Mincey added 2.
Friday night, Bacon County’s girls suffered their first loss of the season, a 54-36 homecourt defeat at the hands of Thomasville. Saturday in Hazlehurst they were still aching from that loss and the Lady Jackets were still playing without Shivers.
The Lady Raiders’ tall center Kay Thomas ruled the boards and scored almost at will in the first half. She scored 16 points in the 1st half as Bacon led 34-16 at intermission and went on to win easily.
Coney led the JD scoring with 17 points. Wyatt hit 4 3-pt. shots for 12 points, Mincey had 5, Alligood 4 and Marlee Burch 2.
Thomas finished with 23 points for Bacon and Apple Reynolds scored 12.
