Boys extend win streak to 8

Jeff Davis High’s boys basketball team ran their win streak to 8 games with 3 victories last week, defeating Pierce County 71-56 Tuesday in Blackshear, downing visiting Telfair County Friday 70-49 and blowing past Appling County 65-42 Saturday in Baxley.
A.J. Sampson, J.J. Benjamin and J.T. Bryant paced the Yellow Jacket win over the Bears with 16, 15 and 14 points respectively.
Mark Durden and Kolby Jarrell just missed doubled figures with 9 apiece, and Jaiden West, Jaiden King and Amare Burney had 2 each.
The Bears were topped by Jamil Strickland with 14, Jikeyse McGauley had 13 and Chezz Armstrong 11.
Benjamin, Sampson and Bryant were unstoppable early on for the Jackets against Telfair as JD led 46-17 at intermission and built their lead to 35 points at the end of three quarters at 66-31.
Coach Thomas McAboy emptied his bench in the final quarter and the Trojans cut the final deficit to 21 points in the 4th quarter.
Benjamin finished with 23, Bryant had 12, Sampson 10, King 9, West 6, and Durden, Jarrell, Burney and Preston Godwin added 2 each.
In Baxley, the Jackets and Pirates were tied 13-13 in the early going before the Jackets took control and walked away to a commanding 46-25 lead after three quarters. Again, McAboy showed mercy by emptying his bench in the final quarter as Appling closed the gap.
Benjamin led the scoring with 20, West had his best night of the season with 17, Bryant added 10, Sampson 6, Jarrell and King 5 each, and Burney 2.
Z. Tillman led the Pirates with 11 points, all against the Jacket bench in the 4th.
