Larry Parlor passes

Larry Parlor, the former long-time Jeff Davis County Coroner and the namesake for Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home in Hazlehurst, passed away at his home last Thursday. He was 80 years old.
A native of Brunswick, Parlor spent most of his life in Hazlehurst and Jeff Davis County. After a stint in the U.S. Army, he graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in Atlanta and went to work at Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst. In 1975, he partnered with Walter Wainright of Thomas-Wainright Funeral Home in Hazlehurst, becoming part owner of the business which then became known as Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home, the name it still operates under today.
Parlor and his wife, Becky, became the sole owners until 1998. He continued to work at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home until 2020. In recent years, Mr. Parlor served as a funeral director at Swain Funeral Home. His career in the funeral home business spanned 53 years.
He was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he formerly taught Sunday School.
Mr. Parlor served as Jeff Davis County Coroner for 20 years and was acting Sheriff of Jeff Davis, stepping into the role when former Sheriff Mark Hall died in the line of duty.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Rebecca “Becky” Hughes Parlor of Hazlehurst; daughters Cindy Parlor Phillips and Christa Parlor (Greg) Miller both of Hazlehurst; son Rodney James Parlor of Hazlehurst; sister Winette Parlor (Michael) Kirkland of Hazlehurst; and brother Kenneth Earl (Linda) Parlor of Hazlehurst; grandchildren Kelly (Cory) Perkins and Ben (Marcie) Williams both of Bonaire, Dr. Annilyne Phillips of Tifton, Briley (Beth) Miller and Chance (Haylee) Miller both of Hazlehurst, and Dr. Michael Lee (Rena) Phillips Jr. of Savannah; great-grandchildren Ryder Jase Rich, Aspen Bristol Williams, Temperance Benleigh Williams, Madilyn Grace Miller, Rush Williams Perkins, Cullen Randal Miller and Brooks Reid Miller.
Services were held Dec. 6 at Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Herrington and the Rev. Rick Brown officiating.
