Mrs. Sara Jo Thomas, 89

Mrs. Sara Jo Thomas, 89, of Hazlehurst, passed away Nov. 30 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Mrs. Thomas was born Oct. 27, 1936, in Jeff Davis County.
She was known for her warm, outgoing spirit and the kind of friendliness that made everyone feel welcome — truly, to know her was to love her. She greeted the world with a bright, unmistakable smile and carried a deep love for her family in everything she did. A devoted member of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst, she cherished her church family and the fellowship they shared. She possessed a strong work ethic and took great pride in her role as a bailiff at the Jeff Davis County Courthouse, rarely ever wanting to miss a day. Her dedication, kindness and genuine love for people will be remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Estelle Harris and Matthew Peacock, and her sister, Liz Holmes.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Algena and Randy Smith of Hazlehurst and Nannette and Josh Williams of Hazlehurst; sister Mary Frances and Jimmy Nester of Hazlehurst; grandchildren Nicole (Aron) Lewis of Perry, Ashlee (Brett) Bassford of Valdosta, Jay (Karleigh) Williams of Greenville, S.C., and Garrett Williams of Savannah; great-grandchildren Olivia Lewis, Emma Lewis, Lawson Lewis, Allison Bassford, Austin Bassford and Annie Bassford; niece Angie Nester Watkins of Uvalda.
Services were held Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst with the Rev. Phillip Worthington and the Rev. Jeffery Spell officiating.
Interment followed in Hazlehurst City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Lonnie Roberts, Stanley Land, Steve Underwood, Reggie Miles, Phil Phillips, Michael Lay and Steve Land.
Music wasrendered by Winona Jowers, the Rev. Jeffery Spell and Hal Cox.
Contributions can be made to First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst Building Fund or Community Hospice of Vidalia, 904 Mt. Vernon Road, Vidalia, Ga., in memory of Sara Jo.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
