Master Maverick Paul Carelock

Maverick Paul Carelock, infant son of Matthew Carelock and Marli McLellan of Hazlehurst, passed away Nov. 14 at Memorial Health Dwaine & Cynthia Willett Children’s Hospital of Savannah. In his short but meaningful time on earth, Maverick proved to be a brave, feisty fighter, meeting each day with a strength far greater than his tiny body.
In addition to his parents, his family includes his maternal grandparents Miranda and Brooks Taylor of Baxley; paternal grandparents Paul and Misty Carelock of Adairsville, and Jennifer and Chris Wilcox of Lumber City; maternal great-grandmother Yommie Taylor; paternal great-grandparents Joann and Carroll White and Angie and Randy Hand; paternal great-great-grandparents Virginia and Byron Taylor, Annie Shumans, William Ertzberger and June Sellers; aunts Morgan Carelock, Adriana Carelock and Melanie and Uncle Michael Griffis; cousins Maeva Mason, Case Griffis, Harley and Kaitlyn Wilcox, and Logan Roddenberry; great-uncle Jonathan Taylor; and three special “siblings,” their dogs Diesel, Gia, and Leo.
The family received friends at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home Nov. 17 prior to the funeral with Pastors Jordan Ball and Shon McEachin officiating. Burial followed at Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Maverick’s special nurses Danielle, Sarah, Jordan, Austyn, Melanie, Emily, Meredith, Abby, Steven, Chris, Alicia; Dr. Buckler, Dr. Glendye, and Dr. Mackowiak, and the rest of the staff and nurses of the South NICU and the Transport Team of Memorial Health Children’s Hospital; and Dr. Diamond’s labor and delivery team at Coffee Regional Medical Center.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
