Kirby named Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week

Ja’Queze Kirby of Hazlehurst, a senior forward on the Angelo State University Rams basketball team, has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Week 3 of the season ending Nov. 16.
As the Rams opened their 2025-26 home schedule with victories over Western Colorado and Adams State, Kirby averaged 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks per game to lead the defensive efforts. Against Western Colorado, he posted eight points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Then against Adams State, he recorded nine points, a season-high 13 rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Kirby is pursuing his graduate degree in coaching, sport, recreation and fitness administration at Angelo State.
Now 5-1 on the young season, the Rams continued their non-conference schedule Thursday against Sul Ross State in Alpine.
