Denton Highway delays to last thru January

Since early October, people driving on the Denton/Douglas Highway have been experiencing delays as work continues on the Georgia Department of Transportation’s project to resurface that highway. Those delays are expected to continue through January, 2026.
The resurfacing project on State Route 135 is a long one. It stretches from the Coffee County line to State Route 27/U.S. 341 (Coffee Street) in Hazlehurst.
Traffic interruption along that route in Jeff Davis County includes daily lane closures for resurfacing, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Jan. 31, 2026.
Work on construction and maintenance projects will continue Nov 22-28.
Georgia DOT is suspending construction-related lane closures on interstate highways and major state routes to enhance safe travel during the Thanksgiving holiday from 5 a.m. Wednesday to 10 p.m., Sunday.
All work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, pay attention and watch for workers.
