Mrs. Daisy Mae Meek, 72

Mrs. Daisy Mae Meek, 72, of Roberta, passed away Oct. 22 at her home.
She was born March 18, 1953, in Jacksonville, Ga., to the late Hoke Smith and Maybel Hulett Smith. She was raised in Telfair County and called Hazlehurst home for over 30 years. She retired from Sunrise Poultry and worked at several poultry farms throughout her life, where she spent many years picking up eggs. She previously attended Snipesville Baptist Church and Graham Baptist Church.
Daisy loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed camping and fishing — often with just a crooked stick — and she could out-fish anyone. She adored her gardenia and rose bushes and had a special love for animals. She also enjoyed watching her stories and crocheting blankets. Above all, Daisy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook, known for her delicious cathead biscuits, and she will be remembered for her big heart and the love she shared so freely.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband Darrell Meek Sr.; second husband Billy Chavis; grandsons Bobby Rainey and Zachary Meek; brothers Grady Smith and Calvin Smith; sister Linda Powell; and her dog Little Bit.
Survivors include her sons Bobby Smith of Baxley, Darrell Meek Jr. of Baxley, and John Meek (Jimmie) of Roberta; daughters Danielle Herrington (David), and Alberta Perkey, all of Hazlehurst; brother Pearl Smith (Linda) of Waycross; sisters Sally Pierce of Vidalia and Linda Strickland of Hazlehurst; grandchildren Alexis Johnson, Abigayle Meek, Hannah Meek, Austin Meek, Whitney Herrington, Ashley Horne, Johsua Feller and Dakota Smith; great-granddaughter on the way; special niece Teresa Bush (Mark) of Hazlehurst; and several other nieces and nephews.
Services were held Oct. 25 in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Davis officiating.
Interment followed in Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Mark Bush, Darrell Meek Jr., John Meek, Bobby Meek, Austin Meek and Joshua Feller.
Honorary pallbearers were David Herrington and Alberta Perkey.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
