School Board meets

At last week’s meeting of the Jeff Davis County Board of Education, Middle School Principal Dr. Brent Coleman recognized the outstanding achievement of the following students who earned a perfect score on the Georgia Milestones Exam:
• Kepler Munsayac – ELA 8th grade score of 730 – current 9th grader.
• Ivan Sanchez – Math 7th grade score of 740 – current 8th grader.
• Corban Hutchinson – Math 6th grade score of 700 – current 7th grader.
School Superintendnet Dr. Chris Roppe presented the September attendance report. The average attendance for Jeff Davis County Schools was 95.49%.
Technology Director Chris Raulerson gave an update on the technology department highlighting the following:
• Coordinated with Federal Programs to purchase the first phase of supplemental classroom Chromebook replacements at the elementary and middle schools (250 devices for each school).
• Assisted Courtney Hand in transitioning into the role of Network Engineer and hiring Logan Salem as Technology Specialist.
• Purchased and implemented the Google Admin Console, enhancing the district’s ability to maintain security and protect against malware and phishing emails.
• Migrated the PC Genesis server to the off-site cloud, improving accessibility and data security.
• Holding weekly meetings to coordinate, plan and build capacity.
• Hosted demonstrations with VTI and Howard to explore cutting-edge technology options for the new primary school.
• Reached out to other districts that have received the RUS-DLT grant to gather information on how the funding can support new technology.
• Reported that Technology Help Desk tickets are at their lowest level for this point in the school year.
Dr. Roppe gave the capital project update for the following:
• New Primary School is moving along with a majority of CMU complete on the Pre-K and Kindergarten wings. CMU walls being installed in first and second grade wings. The steel structure and metal decking are 90% complete in the kitchen/cafeteria wing and the structural steel is in place in the commons area. HVAC ductwork in the kitchen/cafeteria has begun.
• Site work has begun on the Tennis Fieldhouse, waiting for ground samples before footers are poured. Anticipated to be finished before tennis season.
• Major steps have been taken in the Auxiliary Gym from the storm damage. Finished putting side panels on the structure and the next step is to finish the roofing. The timeline for completion is mid-November.
Chief Financial Officer Joshua Worth presented the August financial reports.
Resignatiuons accepted for primary school custodian Robert Jacobs and Pre-K lunchroom assistant Hilda Bryant.
Dr. Roppe confirmed the board members’ availability fora called meeting Oct. 20 at 12 p.m. to approve the tax millage.
