Jeff Davis High’s softball team split a pair of non-region games last week, rolling by Class A, Div. II Telfair County 17-3 and falling to Class 5A Coffee 6-2.
Playing in McRae-Helena last Tuesday, the Lady Jackets spotted the Lady Trojans to a 3-0 1st inning lead, tied the game 3-3 in the 2nd, then blew the game wide open with a 10-run 3rd inning.
Four JD players combined for 5 homers in the game — 2 by Ava Bohannon and 1 each by Claire Stinson, Addison Giddens and Madison Joyce.
Giddens hit a 2-run shot in the 2nd inning, Bohannon hit a 2-run homer and a grand slam in the 3rd, and Stinson followed Bohannon’s 2nd shot with another homer for back-to-back round-trippers. Joyce’s homer was a 3-run shot in the 4th.
The Lady Jackets started the 3rd inning with 7 straight hits as 14 batters stepped to the plate in the inning.
Bohannon and Stinson both had 8 total bases in the contest. Bohannon was 2-for-3 with 2 homers and 6 RBI, Stinson was 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and 2 RBI. Alara McCall had 2 singles, a double and 3 RBI, Giddens had a single, a homer and 2 RBI, Joyce homered and drove in 2 runs, Savanna Robinette had a pair of singles and 2 RBI, Ryleigh Sellers had 2 singles, Cori Mims doubled, and Abbie Williams singled.
Carrie Ellen Arnold was the winning pitcher. She went 4 innings, giving up 3 runs on 2 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.
Playing Coffee High School Thursday in Hazlehurst, the Lady Jackdets committed 3 errors which led to 6 unearned runs and a 6-2 loss.
The Lady Jackets’ 2 runs were both earned and came in the 3rd as Mims drew a 2-out walk, went to 3rd on a Bohannon single, and scored along with pinch runner Abbie Williams off Claire Stinson’s double.
But that was all the scoring Jeff Davis could muster.
Stinson and Robinette both doubled in the game, and Joyce, Mims and Bohannon singled.
Arnold took the loss on the mound. She pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 unearned run on 6 hits, 5 walks and 9 strikeouts.
