Former County Administrator James Carter Dies

Former Jeff Davis County Administrator James Carter passed away last Thursday at his home under the care of Community Hospice. He was 73.
Mr. Carter was member of the management team at Amoco Fabrics and Fibers before serving as County Administrator. It was during his time as County Administrator that he suffered a severe stroke and had to step down from his position with the county government.
Carter was a member of Hazlehurst First Methodist Church where his funeral was held Sunday afternoon.
A native of Hazlehurst and a graduate of Jeff Davis High School, Carter was the son of the late Eugene and Marrell Rentz Carter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Shae Morton Carter.
Survivors include his daughter Deidra (Josh) Higgins of Hazlehurst, brother David (Gayle) Carter of Hazlehurst and six grandchildren.
