JDA Brings New Company To Hazlehurst
The Joint Development Authority of Jeff Davis County, Hazlehurst, and Denton announced that Georgia Asphalt Producers will invest approximately $2.5 million in expanding their operations to Jeff Davis County. The new asphalt plant will create a minimum of seven new jobs in Hazlehurst.
Georgia Asphalt Producers’ leadership said by expanding their operations to Hazlehurst, they will be able to save the City of Hazlehurst and Jeff Davis County money on road construction projects by substantially reducing the cost of transporting asphalt and other materials. Company leadership shared that they have saved one county nearly $1,000,000 in costs since opening their plant in that county. These savings, coupled with the new jobs created, will help boost the local economy in our community.
Georgia Asphalt Producers was founded in 2007 as a “sister-company” to J. Hires Inc. The company is headquartered in Baxley and has plants in Brunswick and Odum. The expansion into Hazlehurst makes the third plant for Georgia Asphalt Producers. The company provides asphalt mix, aggregate, base materials, dirt, and recycled concrete.
The company has purchased property from the Development Authority at the intersection of Frazier Street and East Odum Street in Hazlehurst. Work on the site is coming soon, along with employment opportunities.
“The Development Authority has been working on this project for several months,” said Oakley G. Perry, President/CEO of the Joint Authority. “We are excited to welcome a new industry, help our government partners see lower road project bids, and create new jobs here in our county!”
The Joint Development Authority works to attract new businesses and industry to Jeff Davis County.
