9th Annual Southern Georgia Cross Country Championships
The Jeff Davis cross country program hosted the 9th Annual Southern Georgia XC Championships. The meet has grown to be one of the largest and most competitive meets in south Georgia over the last nine years. The event brought in 25 high school teams and 12 middle school teams from all over southern Georgia.
Richmond Hill swept the middle school races, with the JD squads both finishing second. In the boys race Ivan Sanchez (3rd), Erick Rubio (5th), and Duke Mincey (9th) placed in the Top 10 to lead the Yellow Jackets to second place. The Lady Jackets were led by Brandy Castro (5th) and Rayleigh Pierce (10th).
In the high school races, the Lady Jackets finished second behind Savannah Arts Academy, the preseason favorite to win the 2A State Championship, while the boys finished third behind Benedictine (1st) and Savannah Arts (2nd).
Ellie Kate Marchant won the varsity girls race edging out Francis Tedder of Savannah Arts at the finish line. No other Lady Jackets finished in the Top 10 but the remaining runners all finished inside the Top 35. In the boys race Eric Trejo ran a personal best to finish 7th overall, while the remaining all finished in the Top 50.
In the JV race Bryan Hulett ran a season best to take the win on the boys side. No girls ran in the JV race.
