Mr. Davis Aiken Yaun, 83

Mr. Davis Aiken Yaun, 83, of Soperton, passed away Aug. 21, 2025 at his home, after an extended illness.
Born in Wilcox, Ariz., Nov. 9, 1941, he was the eldest of five children born to the late Myrtle Virginia Davis and Donald Aiken Yaun. He was raised most of his early years in Hazlehurst, where he graduated from Jeff Davis High School, Class of 1959. He completed studies at Southern Technological Institute in Marietta in 1963 with Engineering Degrees in HVAC, and Gas Fuel Technologies.
He married Emma Helen Fuller Yaun in 1962. From 1963–1969, he worked at Lockwood Green Engineers and Associates Inc., Spartanburg, S.C. In 1969 he managed Yaun Gas Company in Hazlehurst for his father, while he underwent a lengthy recovery from a vehicle accident.
In 1971, he and Helen settled in Decatur where they raised their to daughters, Lisa and Angela. Davis was employed with (BAA) Brett Alderman and Associates Engineers of Atlanta where he retired in 2001.
He studied at New Orleans Baptist Seminary from where he received his Associate Degree in Ministry in 1990.
He was a member and active leader at Clairmont Hills Baptist Church in Decatur where he served in many Royal Ambassador leadership roles including State Campcraft Director. Davis was instrumental in organizing many backpacking adventures and mission trips in which thousands of young men and boys learned to apply Christian principles and service to those in need. He helped expand the Royal Ambassador program through camporees at Camp Kaleo in Forsyth; Hike For Home Missions and Arkwright Baptist Mission, an intercity outreach program for youth at risk.
Davis was an avid outdoorsman, naturalist and camping enthusiast. He served as Scout Master for Troop 86 in Spartanburg, S.C., and as an instructor for Girls Scout leadership training. He continued his Scouting involvement and leadership with Troop 830 while in Hazlehurst.
Davis retired from BAA and moved to Brunswick in 2002, after losing his beloved wife, Helen, of 40 years. In 2008, he moved to Treutlen County and spent his remaining years farming at Whispering Pines Farm, outside of Soperton. He produced blueberries, peaches, muscadine grapes, sugar cane and loofa gourds. In 2009, he married Marian Luella Brisbee of Burtville, Pann., who preceded him in death in 2021.
He was most recently a member of Nunez Baptist Church. While in Decatur, he was a Master Mason at Gate City Lodge No. 2, F&AM, Atlanta.
In addition to his parents and wives, he is preceded in death by a brother-in-law, the Rev. Royce Story and a niece, Phyllis Davis, both of Hazlehurst.
Survivors include his fiancé Ellen Vera Willis; daughters Lisa Browning (Phillip), Woodstock and Angela Correro-Drury, Brunswick; siblings Donna Jill Storey, Hazlehurst, Joel Ted Yaun (Millie), Hazlehurst, Donald L. Yaun (Debra), Flowery Branch, Robert L. Yaun, Waycross; grandchildren Sarah Blount (Brett), Heather Mitchell (Taylor), Cora Browning, Chip Browning, Katie Clevenger (Owen), Garrett Drury; great-grandchildren Rachel, Rebekah and Hannah Blount; Marlow, Miller and Van Mitchell; Carson and Emma Clevenger; and nieces and nephews Michelle Doering, Gina Roberson, Steve Yaun, Mack Yaun, Jeffery Yaun, Kevin Yaun, Christopher Yaun and Skylar Yaun.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 6 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Harrell officiating.
His family will receive friends Saturday, prior to and following the service, at Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton.
