Softball wins 3

Jeff Davis High’s softball team won a trio of games over the last week, defeating Worth County 13-4 in 5 innings last Tuesday in Hazlehurst, rolling past Vidalia 13-1 in 4 innings Saturday in Hazlehurst and besting Pierce County 14-6 Monday in Blackshear.
The scheduled double-header last Thursday against Worth County in Sylvester was rained out.
Against Worth, the Lady Jackets led 11-4 entering the bottom of the 5th inning when Claire Stinson ripped her first homer of the season, a 2-run shot that gave the Lady Jackets the run rule victory, 13-4. Addison Giddens scored in front of Stinson as she reached base on a single.
Stinson had the hot bat for JD, going 3-for-4 with a single, a double, a home run and 4 RBI. Giddens had a single, a double and 3 RBI, Mattie Walsh singled twice and drove in 2 runs, Madison Joyce singled twice, Ava Bohannon had a single and an RBI, Cori Mims singled and Savanna Robinette drove in two runs.
Anna Grace Alligood started on the mound, going 4 innings and giving up 2 earned runs on 2 hits, walking one and striking out 4. Gabby Taylor threw the final inning giving up one run on one hit, walking one and striking out 2.
The Vidalia game marked the return to the mound of the Lady Jackets’ leading pitcher Carrie Ellen Arnold, who missed the first four games with an injured non-throwing arm. While freshmen Anna Grace Alligood and Gabby Taylor have performed well in Arnold’s absence, having the senior back on the mound is a huge plus for the Lady Jackets.
The 13-1 win over Vidalia came in just 4 innings. Only 3 of the Lady Jackets’ 13 runs were earned as the Lady Indians committed 7 errors.
Ava Bohannon led the Jeff Davis offense with a single, a 3-run homer and four RBI. Giddens doubled and drove in 2 runs, Arnold and Robinette both had a single and 2 RBI, Mattie Walsh singled twice and Madison Joyce added a single.
Arnold pitched the 4 innings, giving up one run on 3 hits, walking one and fanning 9.
Monday, the Lady Jackets trailed 4-0 after 3 innings but erupted for 6 runs in the top of the 4th. JD led only 7-6 entering the final inning when the Lady Jackets scored 7 runs, sending 10 batters to the plate and getting 6 hits, including homers by Joyce and Stinson. Joyce’s shot was a grand slam and Stinson’s was a 2-run homer. Ryleigh Sellers drove in the other run in the 7th with a sacrifice fly.
Stinson also had a 3-run home run in the Lady Jackets’ 6-run 4th inning.
Stinson led the offense with a double, 2 homers and 5 RBI. Mims and Giddens both had a trio of singles with Mims driving in one run, Joyce had a single, a homer and 4 RBI, Arnold singled twice and drove in a run, Robinette and Walsh both singled, and Sellers drove in 2 runs.
Alligood started on the mound and picked up the win. She went 4 innings, giving up one run on 3 hits, walking 2 and striking out 5. Arnold threw 3 innings, giving up one earned run on 4 hits, walking 3 and striking out 3. Taylor gave up 3 runs on one hit, walked 2 and struck out none.
