Mrs. Sarah Frances Rowland Looney, 78

Mrs. Sarah Frances Rowland Looney, 78, of Fairport, N.Y., formerly of Hazlehurst, passed away Aug. 19 at her residence.
She was born May 8, 1947, in Jeff Davis County to the late Luther Rowland Sr. and Alice Odessa Hannah Rowland. She dedicated her life to caring for others as a registered nurse. She met the love of her life while attending college in Atlanta, and together they built a life filled with family, love, and devotion.
Mrs. Looney spent much of her career at Fairport Pediatrics, where her gentle and compassionate care touched countless families, and she later retired from the East Irondequoit School District in New York. Above all, Sarah was remembered as “Grandma.” She embodied warmth, patience, and gentleness, but was also a fierce protector when it came to her family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years John “Doug” Looney, and her brothers Arvin Rowland, Harvey Rowland, Cecil Rowland, David Rowland, and John Rowland.
Survivors include her daughter Jennifer Shannon Looney of Alexandria, VA; brother Luther Rowland Jr. (Nancy) of Midway; sister Christine Anderson of Hazlehurst; granddaughter Katie Snook (Jordan) of Miamisburg, Ohio; great-grandchildren Melody Snook and Maxwell Snook, both of Miamisburg, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. at Hazlehurst Church of Christ with the Rev. Bobby Lairsey officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 1 p.m. until just prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Liberty Community Church Cemetery.
