Mrs. Ola Anne Johnson Spires Reid, 75

Mrs. Ola Anne Johnson Spires Reid, 75, of Hazlehurst, formerly of Macon and Helena, ascended to Heaven June 23 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Born Oct. 16, 1949, in McRae, she was a member of Baxley Christian Fellowship Church: “The sweetest-spirited congregation I have ever found.” A 1967 graduate of Telfair County High School in McRae and a 1972 graduate of Mercer University in Macon, she was a Pioneer Historical Society member, and was a retired Property and Casualty Insurance Agent.
She is survived by her husband James Robert “Jamie” Reid; step-granddaughter Kinslee Alyssa Hatton; aunt Lilouise Brown Fitzsimons; immediate cousins Lynn Johnson Winters (Abram), Barbara Johnson Davidson (Steve), Kathleen Johnson Clark (Richard), Marian Johnson Parker (Don), Jan Johnson Culwell (Ken), Jerry Johnson Jr. (Sandra), Willis Neal Brown III (Lisa), Kenneth Gerald Brown (Janice), Kaye Brown, Todd Andrews Brown, Leila Nell Fitzsimons Larsen, James Jeffrey Fitzsimons, and Christopher John Fitzsimons (Mary); Godchildren Thomas Thaxton Warren Jr. (Anna), Tammy Darlene Marchant Hodges (Matt), Mary Allison Marchant Kerr (Robby), Christopher Burch Warren (Christen); Godbrother Michael John McEachin; “special adopted” daughter and grandson Samanthia “Thia” Brantley and Isaiah Brantley. Special thanks to Thia for spending Ola Anne’s last three days and nights giving her “Momma” the consoling she needed.
Ola Anne was preceded in death by husband Preston Anthony “Tony” Spires; step-daughter Jamie Marissa Reid Hatton; parents AnnieOla Brown Johnson and Leon Franklin Johnson; step-mother Robbie Clements Johnson; step-brother Sam Aldredge; cousins Elizabeth Marie “Libby” Johnson Nobles Parrish and John Kimball Brown; Godparents Jack and Claire McEachin; and “chosen” brother Stewart “Skipper” Harwell.
Ola Anne walked through life with a heart and soul full of grace, kindness, care and unconditional love for others. She was a deep conversationalist who never met a stranger. She was “Momma” to many and always willing to lend her wisdom and guidance. An exemplary example of a graceful southern lady, she had a deep faith in God and willingly shared her testimony. She could be found shopping, reading or researching genealogy for hours on end.
Services were held June 28 at Vaughn Funeral Home, McRae with the Rev. Roger Daniels and the Rev. Robert Kerr officiating. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery, Helena.
Pallbearers were Justin Fordham, Daniel Fordham, Isaiah Brantley, Terry Cook, Trippe Nobles and John Potter.
In lieu of flowers, she asked that memorial contributions be made to Baxley Christian Fellowship, US Highway 1, Baxley, Ga., or 24/7 House, Inc., 4765 Hatch Parkway, Baxley, Ga.
