Cole Baucom dies in crash

An early Sunday morning UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) crash on Hatton Still Road claimed the life of 22-year-old Cole Matthew Baucom of Hazlehurst, sending shock waves through the community, especially through the tight-knit Jeff Davis High School baseball program.
Baucom was a standout pitcher for the Yellow Jacket baseball program and went on to play collegiate baseball at Andrew College where he received his Associate of Science Degree in Education.
At Baucom’s funeral, scheduled for Thursday, among the speakers will be longtime Jeff Davis High Baseball Coach Paul Glass. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present members of the JDHS baseball teams, members of the JDHS Class of 2021 and members of the 2023 Andrew College baseball team.
According to an accident report from the Georgia State Patrol, the fatal accident occurred Sunday at around 2:30 a.m. on Hatton Still Road near its intersection with Carey Johnson Circle. The 2020 Polaris Ranger Baucom was driving north on Hatton Still Road left the roadway on the west shoulder, struck a culvert, became airborne, and hit a telephone utility pole.

My prayers and thoughts are with Mr. Baucom’s family. I live right up the road from the accident; upon waking up early Sunday morning I went out to see what caused the power outage, standing on my porch I could see the police presence I recall saying a silent prayer hoping and praying no-one was injured. Little did I know…a beautiful life was taken. I didn’t know him personally but that doesn’t erase the pain I felt upon finding out what actually happen. As a mother, grandmother, and aunt I worry each time one of my babies go out on the road. But to the family just remember there is a hope offered from GOD’s Word “death will be no more” the former things have passed away. Rev. 21:3, 4!!
John 5:28 – 28 Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.
Praying for you all!!
