GBI investigating murder

A Hazlehurst family is mourning the deaths of two family members, one of them the victim of a murder.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Hazlehurst Police Department are investigating the April 2 death of 20-year-old Tee’Andrick Jermaine Lawson at his mother’s home on West Plum Street in Hazlehurst.
And the victim’s mother, Tasha Lawson, died several days later in Waycross, apparently of natural causes.
Relatives told WTOC-TV they believe the murder is a hate crime. The family told WTOC the victim was killed inside his room by two men who broke in while Lawson’s mother was out of the home. They believe his sexual orientation played a role in his death.
In the meantime, a GoFundMe has been created to help with Lawson’s funeral expenses.
One of the victim’s brothers went to their mother’s home to check on him after he wasn’t picking up the phone. When his brother got there, no one was coming to the door either.
“He had to break through the window just to get in here and find his brother’s body, which he’s in totally complete shock,” Terreona Harrison, Lawson’s oldest sister, told WTOC.
The police department, fire department, and EMS responded to the home.
The GBI is now leading the investigation.
