Crime Victims Rights Week coming

The Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office and Victim-Witness Assistance Program will commemorate National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) April 6–12 by displaying the Memorial Wall at each Courthouse in the judicial circuit the entire week.
This year’s NCVRW theme — Connecting Healing —r ecognizes that shared humanity drives vital connections to services, rights, and healing. KINSHIP is where victim advocacy begins. This annual observance challenges us to build a world where every connection built through KINSHIP — between survivors, advocates, and communities — holds the potential to heal. It asks us to ensure that resources are available to all survivors and that we show up for one another with empathy and intention. District Attorney Keith Higgins believes we can all take part in a shared goal. To be there for each other and to offer a helping hand to those around you. Often survivors begin their healing journeys by turning to someone they trust: a friend, a co-worker, or another survivor. By showing up with empathy and intention, we help survivors see that they are not alone. Together we stand in KINSHIP with crime victims and survivors to ensure no one walks their healing path alone.
Due to the offices being understaffed and court proceedings, the District Attorney’s Office will not be having the annual Crime Victims Rights Week Memorial Programs. This is an annual program held in each county in the circuit in which loved ones who have suffered a loss speak about how their personal losses led to healing. Even though there will be no program in the circuit counties, the displays with the loved ones lost will still be available for viewing the entire week. We hope to be able to provide a program next year if we are fully staffed again. Please make sure that you come to your local courthouse and see the display, take a bracelet and a little gift to signify that your loved ones have not been forgotten. There will also be support materials at each display and other information available if you are in need. The Jeff Davis display will be located at the Jeff Davis County Courthouse, located at 14 Jeff Davis Street, Hazlehurst.
The Courthouses will be open to the public to view the display. NCVRW began in 1981 to honor victims and survivors of crime, raise awareness of victims’ rights and services and recognize the dedication of those who work with crime victims.
