Mrs. Modeen J. Knox, 92

Mrs. Modeen J. Knox, 92, passed away peacefully Aug. 22. Modeen was born June 26, 1932, to Nolan and Clifford Ella Johnson in Hazlehurst.
She was educated in Jeff Davis County Schools and graduated valedictorian of the class of 1949.
Modeen was married to John Gordon Knox Jr. and had four children. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Hazlehurst.
She enjoyed playing bridge and other games with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid golfer and won numerous tournaments.
Modeen also enjoyed walking, especially on the beach. Also, she was a voracious reader and was a frequent patron of the Jeff Davis County Library.
Modeen was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Jerrie McEachin. Modeen is survived by her children, Craig Knox, Teri Walker, Kris Knox (Susan), and Jean Harrison; grandchildren Adam Walker (Onnie), Jaime Walker (J.P.), Kelli Blackburn (A.J.), Kate Knox, Chip Knox (Joanna), Kyle Knox (Amberly), Chelsea Harrison and Jason Harrison, her step-grandson with whom she had a special relationship; great-grandchildren Logan Evans, Allie Walker, Jack Blackburn, Shelby Blackburn and Charlie Knox; siblings Grace Spann (Gene), Odessa Quinn, Randall Johnson, Mike Carter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sept. 14 at the First Methodist Church of Hazlehurst at 11 a.m. with a visitation immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jeff Davis Public Library at 189 E. Jarman St., Hazlehurst, Georgia 31539 or to St. Marys Highland Hills Memory Care Unit, 1660 Jennings Mill Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677.
