Mr. Charles ‘Jr.’ Rowell, 88

Mr. Charles “Jr.” Rowell, 88, of Hazlehurst, passed away Aug. 25 at his residence.
Mr. Rowell was born April 24, 1936, in Jeff Davis County.
He is preceded in death by his parents Daniel Odell Rowell and Bessie Selph Rowell, son Wayne Rowell, daughter Darlene Rowell and sister Betty Jean Brown.
He was the owner and operator (along with his wife) of Rowell Trailer Sales and was of the Baptist faith. It was plain to see they made a good team.
He was a quiet and simple man, much of a man in stature, but he had a sweet disposition, always had a kind word to say. He enjoyed watching Nascar, working, and loved his family dearly.
Also, I think Mr. Jr. was an executive assistant to Ms. Wilma’s Avon Business, because he was always there in the office with her and would assist you if she was not there. The special thing about his retiring, it was on his 81st birthday, after he had worked for 62 years, quite an accomplishment.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years Mrs. Wilma McCarty Rowell of Hazlehurst; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Ellen Rowell of Douglas, Earl and Cindy Black of Blackshear and Sammy and Lisa Black of Hazlehurst; brothers Earl Rowell of Baxley; sisters Martha Sellers (Larry) of Gray and Charlene Hall (Clyde) of Douglas; grandson and wife Matthew and Kristi Rowell; and several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services were held Aug. 27 in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Carter, and the Rev. David Barber officiating. Interment followed in Liberty Cemetery.
