Lady Jackets off to 0-5 start

Jeff Davis High School’s softball team dropped a 3-game Region 1, Class A, Division 1 series to Bacon County last week, losing 9-6 Tuesday in Hazlehurst and dropping both ends of a double header Thursday in Alma, 2-0 and 5-3.
Saturday in Vidalia, the Lady Jackets suffered two more losses, falling 2-1 to West Laurens and 4-0 to Toombs County.
In Tuesday’s game, the Lady Jackets found themselves down 8-0 after 4 1/2 innings and couldn’t catch up.
Jaqueline Villasenor and Ava Bohannon both had a pair of singles and an RBI to lead JD at the plate. Kira Buford had a single and an RBI, Jazmine Villasenor and Cori Mims both had singles, and Claire Stinson added an RBI.
Carrie Ellen Arnold took the loss on the mound. She pitched two innings, giving up one earned run on three hits, walking one and striking out three. Jaqueline Villasenor threw three innings, giving up one earned run on five hits, walking one and striking out two. The Lady Jackets had a tough time in the field, committing nine errors spread out over six players.
In the first game in Alma, the Jackets got five scattered hits, all singles, and couldn’t get a run across the plate. Stinson and Arnold both had a pair of singles. Bohannon, Alara McCall and Madison Joyce each had singles.
Arnold pitched four innings, blanking the Lady Raiders on three hits, no walks and pair of Ks. Mims took the loss in relief. She went two innings, giving up two runs on five hits, a walk and a strikeout.
In the second game, JD managed only three hits, a single and a double by Stinson and a single by Joyce. Joyce and Alera Vann both had an RBI.
Chasity Jackson was the losing pitcher. She went two innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits, a walk and a strikeout. Mims threw four innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits, a walk and no strikeouts.
Against West Laurens, the Lady Jackets out-hit West Laurens 7-6. Stinson had a single and a double, Bohannon had a pair of singles, and McCall, Buford and Joyce each had singles. Arnold drove in JD’s only run.
Jaqueline Villasenor was the losing pitcher. She threw six innings, giving up two runs on six hits, walking none and striking out four.
Against Toombs County, Jeff Davis got only one hit, a double by Arnold.
Arnold took the loss on the mound. She went three innings, giving up one earned run on three hits, walking none and striking out two. Mims threw an inning and 1/3, yielding two runs on two hits, walking one and striking out one. Jackson hurled 1 2/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits, walking none and fanning one.
