Ms. Martha Ray, 72

Ms. Martha Jane Ray, 72, of Denton, passed away July 10 at her residence.
Ms. Ray was born Aug. 14, 1951, in Jeff Davis County. She is preceded in death by her parents Pearl and Edward Evans, husband Danny Oliver Ray, brother James Evans and sister Wanda Sharpe.
She was a homemaker, and took that job very seriously. Martha was a special, sweet Christian lady; she was so meek and humble. She never had a lot to say but when she spoke it was kind and sweet words. She was a hard worker, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, watching TV, gardening, and fishing. She also enjoyed traveling and shopping when she got a chance. She adapted to and overcame every obstacle that faced in her life.
Survivors include son Mark Merritt (Noelle) of Douglas; daughter Phyllis Collins of Tennessee; brother Ted Hartley (Debbie) of Hazlehurst; sisters Annette Green of Baxley and Margaret Hernandez (Robert) of Hazlehurst; grandchildren Deven Hunnter (Jennifer) of Kingsland, Brittany Martin of Douglas and Sean Quattlebaum of Douglas; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held July 14 in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with the Rev. Tyrone Hutchinson officiating.
Interment followed in Union Springs Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Deven Hunnter Merritt, Gary Newman, Blake Adams, the Rev. Jinker Horton, Kyle Evans and Ted Hartley.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
