Mr. Rhonwyn Dawson, 75

Rhonwyn Dawson, 75, left us peacefully early on the morning of June 22 at his home in the care of his family, friends, and Southern Regency Hospice. Rhonwyn now rests in the arms of our Lord and is reunited with his parents, Harmon O. Dawson and Cloteel Carver Dawson, and numerous much-loved family and friends who have gone before him.
Rhonwyn was born on his father’s birthday on May 29, 1949, in Hazlehurst. After graduating with honors from Jeff Davis High School in 1967, Rhonwyn attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and returned home to follow his parents in a career of farming. He married the love of his life Judy Elaine Thigpen on Feb. 27, 1971. Enjoying the great outdoors whether on a tractor or in a deer stand was where he was the happiest. He was a lover of Southern Gospel Music playing it almost constantly in his home.
Rhonwyn leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 53 years Judy Dawson; daughter Christie D. Marchant (Britt); granddaughter Madison M. Carroll (Rhett), all of Hazlehurst; and sister Rhonda D. Bennett (John) of Alma along with a host of extended family.
A celebration of life was held June 25 at Oakland Baptist Church. Officiating were Revs. Dustin Hutto and Royce Hulett.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Watkins, Wayne Hall, James Thompson, Scott Powell, Keith Byers, and Carlos Flowers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that the following be considered for donation: Oakland Baptist Church, 187 Oakland Church Road, Hazlehurst, Ga 31539 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or stjude.org/donatetoday.
